Antonio Werli (b. 1980) is a french visual artist. He works also as a literary translator and publisher for two decades in France and Argentina. After ten years in Buenos Aires, he’s now living in Arles, Provence.Self-taught, he has worked with traditional techniques and digital tools, which led him to forge a personal style and a syncretic universe of different inspirations. His work is characterized by patient meticulosity, surreal atmospheres, minimalist abstraction, and expressionist gestures.He joined the NFT space in January 2022 seduced by the effervescence of the art scene on Tezos. Since then he also learned coding technics and created several generative artworks. His work was exhibited in several group shows in France, Argentina, United States and across Europa. He's latest solo show was at Fu:d Gallery (Buenos Aires).
I always see my literary practice – writing, translation, publishing, bookdesign – as an art. When I lived in Buenos Aires, I used to have my own letterpress studio and a small publishing house with my wife. I guess the handmade composition with lead types where order and chaos are dueling all day long was a first step that lead me to generative art where I find today a great joy in creating. Also, as a literary translator, working almost daily with different languages influences a lot of my inspiration. Maybe I see literature as a way to go from language to emotion, and visual art, in the opposite way, from emotion to language.
