An art quote that resonates with me the most: “Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” – Thomas Merton
Poonu Kulkarni is an Indian abstract artist based in Bangalore. She uses a diverse range of tools, mediums, and techniques to explore the themes of nature and individual and shared cultural and spiritual human experiences in contemporary society. She’s been a physical artist since early childhood and has been pushing the boundaries of digital art since 2022. Her works have been exhibited in many countries around the world.
I use multiple different mediums, such as oil, acrylics, watercolor, and digital, to create my artworks. I believe that working in a single medium is restrictive to my artistic process. However, my NFT portfolio has been created primarily using diverse digital tools and techniques, aligning with the digital-native space. No AI has been used in the creation of my artworks.
I had an art mentor growing up who introduced me to the foundational skills required for watercolor, acrylic, and oil painting. My earlier physical artworks were created using oil, acrylic, and watercolor mediums, with an emphasis on landscapes. I have won several art contests and have taken part in group exhibitions growing up.
But it was only in my early twenties that I got an opportunity to truly hone my artistic skills. While at university in Bangalore, I enrolled for additional certifications and diplomas, spaced across two years, after university hours, in various creative fields like fashion design, interior design, jewelry design, and pottery. These creative courses helped me gain an in-depth knowledge of color, texture, composition, and other elements of design and their practical application, irrespective of the creative canvas being used to depict them.
Since 2022, I’ve embraced the blockchain technology, tokenizing my digital and physical works as NFTs, and have participated in multiple group exhibitions within the crypto-art space.
